Frequently Asked Questions

What is the [ b ] School?
The [ b ] School is social mentoring and referral network dedicated to helping photographers succeed. We provide a platform that makes it easy for your to connect with other photographers who are more interested in collaborating than competing. At it's core, it's a social network on steroids that has tools & resources to help photographers learn, share referrals and stay on top of what's up in the photo industry.
Who should join?
The [ b ] School was designed to help professional and aspiring professional wedding, portrait & event photographers to build their businesses. So, if you are in the business of making money with your camera, and you want to connect with others looking to do the same... you are in the right place.
Why should I join?
There's an old African proverb that says, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." We believe in the power of photographers helping photographers. We believe that this business is easier when you have friends who've got your back, and a community as a whole supporting you along the way.
How can I get the most out of my membership?
Easy. Participate! Don't be shy. Ask around, make friends, watch videos. Leave comments on people's photos. Interact! Seriously... this isn't just another forum to lurk and read. This place is about finding your photo friends and helping each other out. I promise you, the [ b ] School community is the most open, most helpful and most friendly places for photographers to spend their time online.
Can I change my plan?
You can manage your subscription easily from within the account section of your locker. You can cancel at any time (your account will remain active until your next billing date, but you will not be rebilled and at that time you'll no longer have access to your account). You can also upgrade to a yearly or private school plan at any time. If you'd like to change from a yearly plan to a monthly plan, you can do that as well, but it won't switch over until your year is done. Contact support if you need help.
How do I get my free gifts?
If you signed up for a year or for private school, you will be emailed within 30 days of enrollment with instructions on how to redeem your gifts.
How do I contact support?
There are several ways to contact support. We have a support wiki set up through our Facebook page, where you can easily ask questions, make suggestions, report bugs or read some other FAQ's. We also have a live chat support module at the bottom of the page (it's will indicated when a live human being is available to answer your questions). You can also always email support@thebschool.com or go ahead and just pick up the phone. 949.385.0037.
Is your site mobile friendly?
Pretty much! Most of the functionality of the site works on iOS & Android. All of the videos are mobile device friendly. We do have plans for for some full fledged mobile apps.
Why do I have to have a website to join?
We want to protect the integrity of the community, so the [ b ] School is limited to professional and aspiring professionals only. This isn't a place for hobbyists. There's nothing wrong with hobbyists, but our focus is to help you make a living with your camera. And obviously you need a website in order to get clients. Also, a live human being personally verifies each member's website before they are allowed to join. We want to make sure that everyone is who they say they are, that way there are no anonymous members. People are a lot more respectful when their real name and business website is attached to their profiles.
Are there moderators?
No. We believe in freedom of speech, we believe that we are all adults and should be treated as such. We don't have any babysitters like on some other forums limiting what you are and are not allowed to talk about. However, our "Don't be a Prick" rule from the old [ b ] School is still in effect. If you are constantly spamming, or disrupting our community, or spreading negativity and hate, you'll kindly be shown the door. Thankfully we haven't had to do that yet and we aren't worried about that as the people who join the [ b ] School are just plain awesome.
If you are all about openness & sharing, why is [ b ] School private?
As Amex says, membership has it's privileges. The content posted inside of our community is not searchable by Google or any other search engines. We want people to be able to freely ask questions or share stories about their businesses without their clients being able to see it. You don't want to ask an embarrassing question on how to handle a sticky situation about a client on your Facebook wall for everyone to see do you? You also don't want to ask for a photo critique on an image that you publicly posted so that your clients or potential clients can see.
