I love capturing the developing personalities of children from birth. Even in newborn images, you can catch a glimpse of something unique in each child that will blossom as they grow. As I look back at the earliest images of my children, I can see the first glimmer of their emerging personality.
Through photography I try to capture a moment in your child’s life. Time passes so quickly, especially now when life is so busy. As parents, we wish we could slow down more often and cherish the everyday moments in our children’s lives: watching a child drinking from a water fountain, talking to her baby doll, finding a bug, telling a new joke, … every moment they are growing. There is something to be captured today that reveals not only who they are now but who they are becoming.
There is nothing like being a parent and loving your child. The images I love are not the posed photos that remind me what my son looked like in kindergarten, but the ones that have captured his personality. Those first glimpses of my child are the ones I treasure.
I keep those portraits on my wall. On our most challenging days, they give me pause. I see the beauty and value of my child reflected back to me; I see a reflection of something priceless inside him or her.
I want my children to see their portrait on the wall and know that it reveals their true self, not a pose. When we capture the child’s unique personality in a portrait, we are giving him or her a gift that says, “You matter. The real you is a delight to us.”
About Ellie
Ellie loves children. Born into a family of visual artists, she has a natural eye for beauty which is revealed in her images. She studied photography in college and has developed her own style in her many years of experience.
Ellie’s trademark is capturing a child’s personality. She plays games and interacts with children, drawing out the reluctant child and catching chronic “posers” in an unguarded moment. Parents can take a back seat while Ellie romps with the extroverts and steps back for the introverts, giving each of them space to be themselves.
Style:
Ellie’s style is clean, fresh and modern. Her portraits reflect simplicity and authenticity.
