About Chelsea Lewis
i started shooting portraits in early 2008. but it took me over 2 years of shooting to develop my style and decide where i was headed with photography. was business right for me? should i stay shooting as a hobbyist? if i did go into business, what would my focus be? these are all questions i stewed over for a good solid 2 years. now i'm going to be totally honest here, if you read my about me page, you'll know that honesty is very important to me. i have made definite mistakes, and i'm sure i'll continue to make mistakes in business. it happens, and is to be expected.
i strive to create candid portraits (but i still shoot traditional for good measure). i do this by asking you to engage in your imagination with scenarios, silly questions, and interaction. sometimes they are serious, and sometimes not so much. but either way, i get candid reactions.
i strive to customize and offer products that fit each individual clients needs. while i would love for every client to have an album of the images telling their story at their session, i know that not every client wants or needs that. so instead of offering pre-designed packages, i work with each client individually to customize a package that includes everything you want! so what about package discounts that are often offered with pre-designed packages? no need to worry, you'll still get those, because i offer a unique tiered pricing structure that i feel will fit all budget ranges, as well as all package options. you'll get exactly what you want!
every session is unique, and every session is designed with the client in mind. literally. when you book, you are asked to fill out a questionnaire, and that questionnaire, while it may not seem at all related to photography is the catalyst for creativity in your session. your answers will help me to custom tailor a session that portrays your family and relationships accurately. i'm extremely client oriented and i work with you through the whole process when designing your session. it's about you, and we're telling your story. we're trying to capture a specific moment in time in your life, and as life changes, and your family grows and matures, inevitably that moment in time will become increasingly important to you as time goes on!
aside from aiming for candid photographs, i have a distinct style. i shoot for bright, airy, and relaxed photos. my style may not always be correct in technical or compositional aspects, but if i captured emotion and reality, then i feel i have succeeded! i don't heavily edit my photos. i try my best to avoid trendy editing like selective color, heavy textures, or vintage edit photos. they simply aren't my style. i don't want you to look at a photo 10 years down the road and be able to tell the date of it by the trends. obviously, hair styles, clothing styles, etc. will date photos, but i hope that my photography style and editing don't. my photos could often be described as overexposed. this is because i really love the pop of color a subject has on an overexposed background, and i edit to enhance that. i'm definitely not your traditional studio photographer, because that's just not me! =)
